Attorney General Schmitt joins bipartisan antitrust probe of Facebook

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his office is part of a bipartisan investigation by state attorneys general into Facebook’s potential violation of state and federal antitrust laws.

The multistate coalition will conduct a wide-ranging investigation in accordance with federal and state antitrust laws to determine whether Facebook has harmed competition, raised prices for advertising, reduced the quality of consumer experiences, or misused consumer data.

“Even the biggest of the big tech companies should be held accountable, and that’s what we’re seeking to do with this investigation,” said Attorney General Schmitt. “This coalition of attorneys general will investigate Facebook’s business practices to determine whether they engaged in anticompetitive behavior, put user data at risk, reduced consumer choice, and more.”

Attorney General Schmitt is joined in the investigation by attorneys general from 47 states and territories.
