Five questions with Rep. Wanda Brown, R-Lincoln

1. What was your first campaign experience?

We had started our actual first campaign in 1998 and 1999 when we were getting concealed carry on the ballot in April of ‘99. That was our first campaign we worked on, and we worked with the NRA. That’s how the process worked. It was truly amazing. The next year that got us involved in the presidential race. We got to meet George Bush and Dick Cheney that year, too.

2. In what ways have you made a tangible effect on your constituents’ lives during the past legislative session?

For me, we always want to put out good legislation, of course, but for me the main job of the representative is to be the liaison between the public and the state agencies. There have been so many times I’ve been able to help direct people to who they need to talk to. That’s been what’s great for me.

 3. Who from the opposing party do you most respect? And your own party?

Chris Kelly — he has helped me with so many issues because he’s a wealth of information. There have been issues I’ve actually asked him to work with me on to help our constituents. Philosophically, we are night and day but he is truly about helping constituents.

From my own party, there have been so many. I would have to say John Diehl. From the minute that I decided to run, he’s the one that’s been somewhat of a mentor as far as fundraising and campaigns or any issues I’ve needed help with. He and Joe Lakin have been so helpful. I get good advice and have great access to them and that’s very important to me. With term limits you d

on’t know who to turn to always and he’s always been there. Two good friends that have always been very helpful are Gary Cross and Jeanie Lauer.

4. What was your dream job growing up?

I’ve always liked working with the public. I always knew there were so many different things out there that I don’t know I had a dream job, but I’ve enjoyed every job I’ve ever had.

5. What do you most enjoy about the interim?

Being back in the district. I enjoy the constituents and the friends and everybody that I know. I always feel very welcome back in my district and that’s really important.
