CONWAY, Mo. — Two statewide elected officials are scheduled to join Missouri’s dairy producers, their families, and allied industries on June 8 to celebrate June Dairy Month.
Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and Attorney General Josh Hawley will be special guests at the Missouri Dairy Association’s annual Summer Classic field day in Conway, Missouri.
“We are proud of the fact that Missouri’s dairy industry adds $2 billion to the state’s gross domestic product according to a University of Missouri study,” said MDA President Ted Sheppard, a dairy producer from Cabool, Missouri. “The study also showed an economic output effect per cow in Missouri of $14,464.
“That’s why MDA believes it is a high priority for the State to maintain a local milk supply for the benefit of consumers and our local dairy producers.”
Ashcroft is expected to officially present the State of Missouri Proclamation for June Dairy Month and Hawley will make some additional remarks. Some members are the General Assembly are expected to attend.
The day will kickoff with a tour of a new compost pack barn on the dairy farm of Lloyd and David Gunter.
“Compost pack barns are newer technology contributing to cow comfort and are gaining popularity in Missouri.” said Sheppard.
NRCS and University of Missouri dairy specialists will talk with attendees on manure handling, pack barn design, and feed inventory/chopping. The free event is open to dairy producers, their families, and allied industries.
