The micro-conference also comes in National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. National Cybersecurity Awareness Month was designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity and increasing protections against cyber incidents.

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway, who has made cybersecurity a priority in audits, will present on how audits can protect personal information from cyber threats.

“These are modern-day risks that didn’t exist 30 years ago, but that need our attention now,” said Galloway. “Data protection and cybersecurity are being discussed in boardrooms all across the nation, but they can’t just occur in boardrooms. They need to occur in our city council chambers, in our school board meetings, in our courthouses and in our communities.”

Jennifer Rathburn, partner in the Data Privacy & Security Team of the national law firm Quarles & Brady LLP and founding member of the MCSA will speak offering recommendations on effective communication with your board of directors about cybersecurity issues.

“It is an absolute honor to share the podium with Auditor Galloway to address these critical issues,” said Rathburn.

“The MCSA was born out of a desire to address cybersecurity with a multidisciplinary approach, with the knowledge that communication and collaboration is the most effective way to combat attacks on business and government. It will serve as a hub for all cyber security stakeholders, in every industry, to collaborate on current cyber threats, and cyber defenses and strategies.”

Joseph Abrenio of Delta Risk Recommendations, who will present about communicating effectively with boards about cybersecurity issues.

Jerry Gamblin, cybersecurity analyst, will also speak on why wireless networks should not be trusted.

The conference comes weeks after an announcement from Attorney General Chris Koster that as many as 263,000 Missouri consumers were affected by a data breach of T-Mobile and Experian.
