JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The campaign advocating for an overhaul of Missouri’s politics has hit the airwaves with an advertisement highlighting gifts given to lawmakers by lobbyists.
The Clean Missouri campaign launched “Money Grab” on Tuesday. The television ad is advocating for the passage of Amendment 1 on the general election ballot.
“With so much money in our elections, and gifts from lobbyists in Jefferson City, Missouri politicians can get a little carried away. Last year, they look a million dollars in gifts like concert tickets and fancy dinners,” the narrator in the ad says. “But we can fix this. Amendment 1 lowers campaign contributions, requires fair districts, eliminates fancy gifts from lobbyists, and makes state government transparent.”
The ad also touts Clean Missouri’s bipartisan support, which includes: Republicans, Democrats, independents, and editorial boards across the state.
Based on the October quarterly filings, Clean Missouri has spent $425,331 in the last three months and $2,117,105 total advocating for the measure. The organized opposition to the measure, Missourians First, filed limited activity.
