Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Workgroup schedules first working session

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The group tasked with creating a plan to install electric vehicle chargers throughout the Show-Me State is planning its first working meeting for the end of November.

The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Workgroup, which is housed in the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has planned a working session for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday November 29, 2018. The meeting will be held in Jefferson City and is scheduled to last an hour and a half.

The workgroup is funded with proceeds from the Volkswagen Trust. The trust is funded with a portion of Missouri’s $41 million slice of the $2.9 billion national settlement that resolved claims that Volkswagen violated the Clean Air Act by selling approximately 590,000 vehicles with 2.0- and 3.0-liter diesel engines having emission defeat devices.

Missouri created a Beneficiary Mitigation Plan to spend the settlement, which if not spent will be distributed to other states. The overall goal of the plan is to reduce mobile source emissions of NOx with maximum cost-effectiveness.

Additional goals include: helping school districts across the state replace aging school bus fleets, reducing diesel and gasoline fuel consumption, supporting government-owned fleet upgrades, incentivizing private-owned fleet upgrades of aging medium and heavy-duty vehicles, targeting areas that currently or historically haven’t met national air quality standards, targeting areas of the state with high numbers of affected VW vehicles, and providing infrastructure investments for the adoption of electric vehicles.

The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Workgroup is tasked with fulfilling the infrastructure investment goal. A press release stated that “Missouri committed to first completing a highway charging network, then allowing charger installations at workplaces and multi-unit dwellings as funds allow.”

All interested parties may join the working session team.

The agenda includes creating a vision for the program, developing logistics for meetings, outlining work products and milestones, and scheduling future meetings.
