Eyes On: District 24 Senate Race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Several weeks ago, Sen. John Lamping, R-St. Louis County, announced he would not be running again for his current seat in the 24th district in the Missouri Senate.  The field of those who would be running for this seat has narrowed as four candidates have filed: Robb Hicks, Jack Spooner, Jill Schupp, and Jim Higgins.

The Missouri Times reached out to both Spooner and Schupp as they are the two candidates who have the support Missouri’s Democratic and Republican parties.

Schupp said that her decision to run was based on the needs of the people within her district.

“Well I think that the people in this district are looking for a common sense legislator, and thats what I am,” she said.

As for what Schupp aims to accomplish if elected, “Well I think that still the idea of good jobs for people and how we develop our economy is very important in the district, I think education, and how we take care of people’s health is important in the district,” Schupp said.

When it comes to competition, Schupp is not going to shy away from other candidates, “Filling closes tomorrow at 5 p.m. and when we see who’s in the race I’ll be happy to sit down and have a conversation with who is running.”

Spooner when reached said that he is still working on creating his platform and has spent time introducing himself to people within the district to better understand issues related to them.  Spooner is still in the early stages of putting together a successful campaign.
