Gov. Nixon makes appointments to boards and commissions

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today announced he has appointed Scott M. Smith, of Kansas City, to the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact; Judith B. Huntsman, of Springfield, to the Missouri Real Estate Commission; and Dr. Rochelle L. Harris, of Kansas City, to the Missouri State Committee of Interpreters.

The Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact brings together state leaders from across the Midwest to advocate for passenger rail improvements. Missouri is one of nine states that are part of the commission, which was formed by compact agreement in 2000. The other states are Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

Smith retired in 2013 from HNTB Corp., ranked as one of the top engineering firms in the U.S. His 28 years with the firm included serving as CEO of HNTB Infrastructure, and he was responsible for major projects across the country including highways, bridges, rail, transit and airports. Smith also serves on the Midwest Transportation Center advisory committee. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending Jan. 1, 2017. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.

The Missouri Real Estate Commission protects the public from incompetence, misconduct, gross negligence, fraud, misrepresentation, or dishonesty; licenses only qualified professionals by examination and evaluation of minimum competency; enforces standards by implementing legislation and administrative rules; and encourages economic development and partnerships with existing small businesses.

Huntsman is a licensed realtor whose business is a top 100 company for gross commission income in companies of 51 to 100 agents. She is a past president of the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors, and has served in official capacities for several local and national realtor organizations. Huntsman also has served on several local charitable and civic boards. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending Oct. 16, 2016.

Dr. Harris is a licensed psychologist who is board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. She serves as a clinical psychologist at the Children’s Mercy Hospital Developmental and Behavioral Sciences Clinic. Dr. Harris previously was a staff psychologist at Western Missouri Mental Health Center. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending Oct. 9, 2017.
