Gov. Nixon orders flags to fly at half-staff in Bates County on Thursday for former state Sen. Harold Caskey

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at government buildings in Bates County be lowered to half-staff to honor former state Sen. Harold L. Caskey on Thursday, Oct. 8, the day of his funeral. Sen. Caskey, who represented west-central Missouri for seven terms in the state Senate from 1977 to 2004, died on Oct. 1.

“Throughout his life, Harold Caskey was a true champion for the people of west-central Missouri and for working men and women all across our state,” Gov. Nixon said. “He continued that public service even after leaving the Senate, and the lowering of the flags is a sign of the respect Sen. Caskey earned. My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the First Lady, are with Kay, Kyle and all their family and friends.”
