Governor Greitens visits St. Louis Veterans Home

By: Press Release
On: March 2, 2018
Governor Greitens made a stop to visit with veterans, family, and staff at the St. Louis Veterans Home yesterday—continuing his efforts to visit with staff and residents in Veterans Homes around the state following disturbing revelations about conditions in the St. Louis Home. The Governor previously travelled to the Warrensburg and Mexico Veterans Homes, and spent time with staff and veterans in the St. Louis Home after announcing actions to reform the system.“Our veterans deserve excellent care—not the excuses and failure of big government that they are used to. We’ve been fighting for these veterans, and I’m proud to say we’re getting results. I talked with residents and staff, and they told me that things are getting better. There’s still more to do, but things are looking up and the new leaders we brought in are getting results.”Last year, the Governor ordered an independent investigation to look into complaints made by family members of veterans residing in the St. Louis Veterans Home. The investigation revealed serious issues. In response, Governor Greitens took action to protect Missouri veterans, replacing all five of the previous administration’s appointees to the Missouri Veterans Commission, called on Larry Kay to be replaced as the Executive Director of the Missouri Veterans Commission and for Rolando Carter, the administrator of the St. Louis home, to be fired.Larry Kay has been replaced, with Col. Grace Link of the Missouri Air National Guard serving as interim Executive Director and Rolando Carter has been fired.Governor Greitens also launched full investigations into each of Missouri’s other veterans homes, the results of which were released earlier this year.
