St. Louis- Former federal prosecutor and gubernatorial candidate Catherine Hanaway issued the following statement following the murder of Kansas City, Kansas Police Captain Robert Melton yesterday afternoon.

 

“Violence against the police must stop immediately,” Hanaway said.  “Yesterday’s deplorable murder of Captain Melton should be a stark reminder to us all of how the brave men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect us all.  Blue Lives Matter, now and always.”

 

Hanaway added, “my thoughts and prayers are with the Melton family and the KCKPD.” 

 

Hanaway has proposed harsher sentences for assaults on police throughout her campaign, and even included calls for “harsher penalties for violence against police” in one of her television advertisements (available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOjWQm0Y2kY).
