John Russell announces campaign for Greene County Commission

John Russell has announced his campaign for Associate Commissioner of Greene County.

On January 8, 2019, Russell was appointed to the County Commission by Governor Parson to fill a vacancy made by the election of Sen. Lincoln Hough.

The Greene County Commission is made up of three commissioners, all serving four-year terms. Russell currently sits as commissioner for the 2nd District, comprised of the eastern portion of the county.

“I was honored to be appointed by the governor to serve in this capacity for a short term, and I look forward to earning the continued support of Greene County voters as I put my name on the ballot for the 2020 election.”

Born and raised in Southwest Missouri, Russell is known in the Greene County area for founding his business, Pillar Insurance. Before starting the company, Russell worked as Vice President for another insurance company and has been involved with a local family manufacturing business, L&W Industries. He looks to these experiences as benefits for someone involved in government.

“Having experience in running a business and having the perspective of the private sector allows me to better represent the people of Greene County and understand the needs of small business owners in our area. Our community is blessed with a high entrepreneurial spirit that we should ensure is cultivated and not crushed by government.”

While this is the only public office he has held, Russell’s commitment to public service expands over 20 years. This includes Russell’s time as Deputy Chief of Staff for former Governor Matt Blunt.

“Working in Governor Blunt’s office was a great opportunity to become familiarized with government and work with some incredible men and women. Likewise, seeing the enthusiasm of Missourians when it comes to standing up for what is right has inspired me to keep fighting for a bright future for my children—and all our children. For me, that means serving my local community to keep our families safe and prosperous.”

Russell’s top priorities for the Commission include trust, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.

“We must approach the budget process with discipline and set priorities. As with all things, strong principles and ethical guidelines should be the starting point for any business conducted by the Commission. When we lead with integrity, we can accomplish great things.”

Russell attends Second Baptist Church and serves in multiple community groups, including as president-elect of the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. He is the husband of Jenilee and proud father of two children.

John Russell has retained Axiom Strategies to serve as consultants on his campaign.
