Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party (MOGOP) announced today he is leaving the Missouri Republican Party to focus on his congressional run, confirming information reported by The Missouri Times last weekend.
Smith, who is running for the republican nomination in the 8th district congressional seat, served as Executive Director since 2009. His tenure as the party saw the election of Tom Schweich as State Auditor and republicans elected to super majorities in both the state house and senate.
Newly elected state republican party chairman Ed Martin released the following statement to The Missouri Times about Smith’s resignation.
“Lloyd Smith has worked hard to elect Republican candidates over the past 3 decades, and we thank him for his service. Now he plans to continue pursuing new opportunities to serve, and we wish him and his wife, Marlys, all the best. This position is extremely important to the future of the Party, so we have begun the search for a new Executive Director by seeking input from Republican elected officials, committee members, volunteers, and activists.”
