Mathews joins Vescovo in majority floor leader race

PACIFIC, Mo. – Rep. Kirk Mathews, R-Pacific, sent emails to caucus members Saturday announcing his intention to run for majority floor leader after current floor leader, Rep. Mike Cierpiot, leaves office next year due to term limits.

The legislator is best known for passing this year’s ridesharing bill through the House with wide bipartisan support after it was a somewhat more thorny issue in 2016. Mathews, a sophomore legislator, is currently the vice-chairman of the General Laws Committee.

Rep. Rob Vescovo, R-Arnold, announced his intention to run for the seat Friday, and Rep. Rocky Miller, R-Lake Ozark, is another possible contender for the position.
