“I was born and raised in South Kansas City, this were I attended school and learned the values that made me who I am today. I know this district very well and am excited to serve my family, friends, and neighbors,” McGee said.

McGee said he looks forward to working with legislators on both sides of the aisle upon his arrival in January. He campaigned on fighting for 911 updates, and also hopes to see laws related to the service of summons in landlord and tenant actions reformed.

“Updating the law regarding Limited Liability Corporations (LLC’s) that own blighted property within Kansas City and holding local individual responsible in housing court for the particular property. My district has older homes and out-of-state LLC’s own  many of these properties and the LLC shows little concern for the local neighborhood,” said McGee, who does not plan to pre-file any legislation this year.

The representative-elect has worked in Jefferson City before and believes he has realistic expectations, as well as much more to learn, as he enters the legislature.

“I have worked in Jefferson City and Capitol Hill, I have a respect for the legislative process, to serve my district,” McGee said. “I am willing to work across the aisle to provide substantive legislation that will improve the lives of every citizen.  I am prepared to hit the running working on policy and passing common sense legislation for the state.”

McGee currently serves as the Program Administrator for Jackson County’s COMBAT program, a local tax-funded task force focused on drugs and drug-related crime. He will resign the position at the end of the year. McGee also serves on the Kansas City Board of Trustees for City Trust, Neighborhood, Tourism and Development Fund Board, The Bacchus Foundation and formerly served as the Program Manager with United Inner City Services and chaired the Urban Summit –Young Professionals.

The representative-elect graduated from  the University of Missouri – Kansas City and is currently finishing his Masters Degree at the University Missouri-Columbia, Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs. He interned in Washington D.C. for U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill and then Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon during his studies.

McGee will be maintaining McManus’ staff.

The 36th district is located in South Kansas City, within Jackson County. The district includes three school districts and saddles Sen. Jason Holsman’s and Kiki Curls’ senatorial districts.
