JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Six weeks from candidate filing, over 200 committees have been formed to seek the office of state representative, while 25 committees are active for state senate.
Half of the Senate, 17 seats, are up for election in 2016, while the entire House is up for election.
Former Democratic candidate for state representative, Winston Apple, has changed the office sought by his committee to lt. governor. It is rumored that former Democrat Congressman Russ Carnahan may jump into the race.
Several other familiar names have filed for office, including Democrat Thomas Pauley, who is seeking to replace Rep. Caleb Rowden after challenging his re-election in 2014; Republican Jason Jarvis, former primary opponent of Rep. Shane Roden; and former Rep. Vicki Englund who will be challenging Rep. Cloria Brown.
No new candidates have filed for the office of governor, secretary of state or treasurer.
