Once again, Senator Josh Hawley is doing the best thing for Missourians! I want to thank Senator Hawley for opposing the reauthorization of STELAR in Congress. This outdated piece of legislation actually subsidizes satellite TV companies if they withhold local broadcast channels from local customers in some Missouri communities. How backward is that?
In the best case, it’s a great example of legislation not keeping pace with changes in the marketplace. In the worst case, it’s an example of crony capitalism and the power of well-placed lobbyists for the satellite companies. Right now, Congress is working to decide if STELAR will be renewed or not. Senator Hawley is looking out for Missourians best interests, just like he promised, by opposing renewal efforts.
I applaud Senator Hawley for working to ensure this old, misguided law comes off the books.
