Press Release: Hargis, local teacher, announces bid for State Representative

ARNOLD, MO, February 28th, 2014 – Krystal L. Hargis has announced her candidacy for Missouri’s 113th district, including Arnold, Imperial and Kimmswick, in the State House of Representatives. Hargis will run as a Democrat. She filed for office this last week.

The seat is currently held by Democrat Jeff Roorda, who is making a run for the State Senate this year. “I want to thank Rep. Roorda for his dedication and service to our community over the past four terms. I offer my full support in his campaign for the Missouri State Senate. I plan to continue and build upon Rep. Roorda’s effort for our community,” Hargis commended.

Hargis has contemplated running for State Representative for many years. As a long time educator, the legislative decisions concerning the public school systems are a top priority.

“We need to ensure schools are equipped with the tools to provide our children with the best possible education. I want to help provide the resources necessary to encourage higher education for students to become prepared for our growing and changing economy. Educating our youth ensures the prosperity and advancement in our community and across the state,” Hargis stated.

“While the economy is improving, many families and small businesses are still struggling. Being willing to listen to all sides before making decisions and encouraging bipartisanship with respect and innovation will be the key to solving the economic issues we face,” added Hargis.

Hargis has served on the Jefferson College Board of Trustees since 2001, making her one of the longest  serving current board members. During her tenure, she has served as both the Vice President (2004-2009) and President (2009-2013) of the board.

Hargis is a life-long Arnold resident and a graduate of Fox C-6’s Class of 1979, where she has gone on to teach for 27 years. She received a Bachelor’s in elementary education from Webster University in 1987 and completed her Master’s Degree in early childhood education in 1990.  She is also certified in gifted education. Her current position in the Fox School District is as a gifted specialist in the REACH program.

Hargis and her husband, Gary, have been married for 33 years and have two adult daughters and four grandchildren. They are also the owners of a local family run business that they have managed for 21 years.
