RELEASE PAYCHECK PROTECTION PASSED IN THE HOUSE

Legislature clearly focused on protecting Missouri workers

JEFFERSON CITY — Today, the House passed paycheck protection legislation with a clear majority. Paycheck protection will help protect public employees from being used for private union purposes. Americans for Prosperity Missouri applauds Rep. Holly Rehder for sponsoring this legislation. In reaction to today’s movement on paycheck protection, AFP Missouri Deputy State Director, Rachel Payton, released the following statement:

“Today there is hope for bringing fairness back to Missouri. Our public workers will finally be given a yearly choice to decide whether or not to join a public sector union with a simple signature card or electronic opt-in. Instead of the current out of date system that requires Missouri public employees to opt-out of union membership. We would like to thank Speaker Todd Richardson and Floor Leader Mike Cierpiot for leading the charge against unfair treatment for unions. Additionally, we would like to applaud Rep. John Wiemann for his work on the transparency amendment which will now require public labor unions to maintain financial records the same way private sector unions do. Now it is up to the Senate to take a stand and pass paycheck protection in Missouri!”
