JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rep. Paul Curtman’s term as a state representative will come to an end in 2018, but it seems that the district already has some conservatives looking to fill the vacancy.
Two men from Washington announced their intent to seek the 109th district seat in the Missouri House of Representatives this month: Lucas Dieckhaus and Kevin Juergens.
Dieckhaus is the younger brother of Scott Dieckhaus, former state representative and principal at Palm Strategic. The younger Dieckhaus is a therapist and counselor in Washington.
His primary opponent, as of now, is a political newcomer. Juergens is a teacher at Rockwood High School, having worked as an educator for 26 years, and plans to retire and run for the seat.
Dieckhaus has formed a campaign committee, which is active now, while Juergens currently shows no active committee formed or listed with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
The MEC also shows three more candidates with committees filed for the seat: Democrat Patricia Schuba, Republican Scott Bell, and Republican John Simmons.
The primary election will be held on Aug. 7, 2018, after which the Republican winner would, as of now, face Schuba in the general election on Nov. 6.
