From helping position Kansas City as a host city for this year’s FIFA World Cup to navigating complex stadium negotiations, Lucas has remained at the center of some of the region’s most consequential projects.
His efforts to keep the Royals in Jackson County and help secure what could become the state’s most ambitious stadium and entertainment district layout have further elevated his profile as a political and civic leader. Regardless of where one stands on the final deal, few can ignore the amount of work and political capital invested in reshaping Kansas City’s sports and development landscape.
With Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District expected to undergo redistricting, Lucas could also emerge as a significant figure in future federal politics. Should Republicans manage to make the district competitive or flip it outright, Lucas would likely be viewed as a strong Democratic contender capable of mounting a serious campaign for CD5 or another higher office.

A decorated military veteran, Roberts has also demonstrated that he can compete and win in difficult political environments while maintaining strong fundraising capabilities. With term limits approaching in 2028 and a newly elected mayor reshaping the political landscape in St. Louis, Roberts could eventually look toward opportunities beyond the Senate. #9 State Representative Will Jobe
Cash on Hand: $5,738.99
TOTAL CASH ON HAND: $5,738.99
Some may argue there is a degree of hometown bias involved, but Will Jobe has quickly shown himself to be a figure worth paying attention to within Missouri Democratic politics. Smart, well-spoken, and politically intuitive, Jobe embodies many of the traits Democrats have been searching for as they look to reconnect with portions of their traditional working-class base.
A freshman legislator, Jobe has already drawn attention for both his political style and presentation. With the cowboy hat, boots, and signature mustache, he projects the image of a modern Truman-style Democrat, culturally grounded, approachable, and capable of connecting with voters Democrats have struggled to retain in recent years.
His immediate challenge will be holding onto a district in Independence that continues to play around with purple politics depending on the political environment. If he can successfully navigate reelection there, however, Jobe could emerge as a compelling example of how Democrats might compete more effectively in a red state like Missouri.
#10 Former Columbia Mayor Brian Treece
Former Mayor Brian Treece enters any discussion of future Democratic prospects with one of the stronger governing records in the party. During his tenure as mayor of Columbia, Treece oversaw a period marked by economic development, infrastructure investment, and steady civic leadership, giving him a résumé that stands out within Missouri Democratic circles.
He also maintains deep ties to organized labor, relationships that could prove valuable in any future statewide or congressional campaign. Politically, Treece fits into a mold Missouri voters have seen succeed before, pragmatic, institution-minded Democrats in the vein of figures like Jay Nixon or Chris Koster. That combination of executive experience, labor support, and moderate appeal could make him a noteworthy figure if he chooses to seek higher office.
Others: State Senator Brian Williams is running to be St. Louis County Executive. State Representatives Betsy Fogle and Keri Ingle are running for state senate. Other honorable mentions could easily be freshman Reps. Nick Kimble, Ken Jamison, Mark Boyko, and everyone’s favorite UCM grad, Ray Reed.

Jake Kroesen serves as the Editor of the Missouri Times. He hails from Independence, Missouri and enjoys all things Jackson County. A graduate of UCM, he obtained his degree in Political Science.
