Who’s Hot & Who’s Not — May 6 Issue

hot

Representatives Jeff Roorda and Paul Wieland are HOT

Roorda is off to a strong fundraising lead in Senate District 22, and Wieland appears to have avoided a primary after Rep. McCaherty and Jefferson Co. Executive Ken Waller endorsed him last weekend setting up the marquee Senate matchup of 2014.

MATA is HOT

The Missouri Trial Attorneys had numerous allies keeping caps off of non-economic damage awards. Despite a major push by Senate leaders, the issue never even made it to a vote.

The St. Louis Beacon is HOT

After celebrating their five-year anniversary, the Beacon is definitively hot. Jason Rosenbaum, Jo Manies and the rest of the Beacon crew consistently offer some of the most in-depth political reporting in Missouri.

“We’ve Got the Runs” is HOT

From Hannibal to Joplin, St. Joseph to Caruthersville, “We’ve Got the Runs” are the champions of legislative softball tournament. Congrats to captain Elijah Haahr and all of the teammates: Representatives Hough, Cornejo, Miller, Ross, Rowden, Englund, Rhoads, Hinson, Fitzpatrick, and other teammates: Leah, Katie, Caroline, Samantha and Christin. Plus, coaches John Diehl and Scott Faughn.

Education reform is NOT

Not this session anyway. Even after Rep. Brandon Ellington revived the issue, texts from the Republican caucus meeting say an optimistic whip count is still in the low 60s.

House Speaker Tim Jones and Rep. Noel Torpey are NOT

Their team was the pre-tournament favorite was bounced early in last week’s legislative softball tournament. Rumor is next year the Speaker will also absorb members from We’ve Got the Runs — this year’s champions.
