Year starts with lower collections for Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – According to the Revenue report form the Division of Budget and Planning, Missouri’s total monthly collections decreased 5.65 percent when comparing January 2013 and January 2014, from $816 million to $770 million.

Sales tax decreased 9.6 percent from $182 million to $164 million. License fees and permits decreased 54 percent from $12 million to $5 million. The state also spent 73 percent more on tax refunds from $37 million to 64 million.

Liquor tax collections went up 2.9 percent. All other taxes increased 1.9 percent.
