JOBS WITH JUSTICE CONDEMNS ABUSE OF REFERENDUM PROCESS TO DELAY IMPLEMENTATION OF KANSAS CITY’S NEW MINIMUM WAGE ORDINANCE

Kansas City Jobs With Justice released the following statement regarding reports that a small group directed by corporate low wage employers intends to abuse the city’s citizen referendum process to  delay implementation of our new minimum wage ordinance.

This is not an honest effort to get voter feedback on raising the minimum wage in Kansas City. We all know the voters support raising the wage, and the Mayor and City Council knew their constituents supported a strong move towards a living wage when they voted 12-1 for the ordinance earlier this month. This is an attempt to disrupt and delay implementation of the ordinance that was passed fair and square, and we are going to fight this abuse of the referendum process at every turn.
