State Democrats launch new site attacking Greitens

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) has wasted little time turning their focus to attacking Republican gubernatorial nominee Eric Greitens, and a new website from the party is promising to continue that trend.

The MDP launched WrongforMissouri.com Tuesday morning, which features Greitens position on issues as far-reaching as agriculture and Medicaid expansion and a “Wall of Shame” that shares unflattering details on one of Greitens’ donors with the tag line that there are “more to come.”

“We’re launching this website today to make sure Missourians have the facts about Eric Greitens, despite all his hypocritical efforts to conceal them.” said MDP spokesperson Kristin Sosanie.

The effort seems to be part of a blitz coordinated by the party after the former Navy SEAL won the nomination over businessmen Jon Brunner, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and former House Speaker Catherine Hanaway. The day after the election, the MDP ran their first attack ad against Greitens, and they have released another since.

Greitens’ opponent, Attorney General Chris Koster (who did not face any serious threat in his own party’s primary), has had a strong showing in the week since the Aug. 2 primary election. He earned the endorsement of the Missouri Farm Bureau by a wide margin, the first time the state’s most influential agriculture advocacy group has endorsed a Democrat for governor. Koster also currently leads in the most recent poll from the Remington Research Group 45 percent to 43, though that falls within the margin of error.

One bright spot for Greitens is that Republicans overall seem to be performing well in that same poll. U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt leads Jason Kander by seven points, and presidential nominee Donald Trump still leads Hillary Clinton here by just two points, despite tumbling in most other states.
