Boone County Clerk to head Division of Labor Standards

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The outgoing-Boone County Clerk has been tapped to lead the division that ensures Missourians are safe on the job and paid wages required by law.

On Monday, the Director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Anna S. Hui announced that Taylor Burks will serve as the next Division of Labor Standards Director. Burks will begin his new role January 14, 2018.

The Division of Labor Standards helps employers comply with Missouri labor laws and ensures Missourians are safe on the job and paid wages required by law. The division offers free consultation services to employers to reduce workplace fatalities and helps businesses comply with federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Mine and cave inspections are also provided along with training to miners on safe work practices.

“I’m excited to join Governor Parson’s administration with Director Hui’s team, and contribute to the mission of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations,” said Burks. “We have a lot of opportunities to use my operational experiences to continue improving the services we provide to Missouri employers and workers.”

“Taylor joins our team with great experience and qualifications and will be a tremendous asset to the Division of Labor Standards,” said Hui. “He brings a depth of executive, operational, and personnel leadership knowledge, and I look forward to working with him in this position.”

Burks was appointed as Boone County Clerk by Gov. Eric Greitens in July 2017, and sworn into office on July 31st, 2017, following the retirement of longtime Boone County Clerk Wendy S. Noren. He lost his bid to serve a full term in the office in 2018.

Burks earned a B.S. in Justice Systems from Truman State University, a Master’s in Administrative Leadership and a Master’s of Accounting. He previously was Director of Distribution, Logistics and Asset Management for the University of Missouri System. He served for more than seven years on duty as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, then continued his service in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
