Drew Rogers launches 2020 bid for HD 25, promises to be voice for ‘progress’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City attorney has thrown his hat in the race to represent his community in the Missouri House, promising to be “a new voice for progress.”

Drew Rogers, a Democrat, has announced his candidacy to be the state representative for HD 25. He is the second Democrat to enter the race with Patty Lewis‘ announcement on Monday. The seat is currently held by Democratic Rep. Greg Razer who is running for state Senate.

“Millennials are often labeled entitled and as I look at my peers, I see that what we have experienced isn’t all participation trophies and easy paths to success. We’re faced with increasing health care and housing costs, seemingly insurmountable student loan debt, the devastating impacts of climate change,” Rogers said in a statement. “But my generation also grew up being taught to look for and be the helpers. As I see my peers, my neighbors, struggling for the American Dream, I feel called to help my fellow Missourians. I know it is my turn to roll up my sleeves and get to work to shape a better future for Missouri. I am starting in my neighborhood, Missouri’s 25th District.”

Rogers, who resides in the Waldo neighborhood of Kansas City, noted he plans to “bring Midwestern values of sensibility, empathy, and integrity to Jefferson City.”

Rogers lists on his campaign website education, workers first, heath care, and fair housing as the issues he plans to focus on.

An associate attorney at Williams Dirks Dameron, Rogers attended law school at the University of Missouri — Kansas City, where he also earned a Master’s in business administration. Before law school, he worked at a software company based in Mission, Kansas.

While is school, he served as the treasurer of the ACLU Student Alliance; a class representative in the Student Bar Association; senator on behalf of the law school to the Student Government Association; and president of the Student Government Association.

“I believe my legal training will allow me to hit the ground running in the capitol, a city captured by special interest groups,” Rogers said.

Rogers for Progress will officially kick off the campaign at Bier Station on June 29 at 6 pm.
