David Woody, Army sergeant and Clinton County Clerk, announces candidacy for HD 8

Press release

David Woody (PROVIDED).

Army Sergeant and Clinton County Clerk David Woody has announced his candidacy for Representative of House District 8, comprised of Clinton and Caldwell Counties with the northern portion of Clay and Ray Counties.

Woody, a Republican, is seeking to succeed the now-termed out House Representative Jim Neely, who is currently running for Governor.

“As a Soldier for our Country and State, and a public servant of my community, I know that we need a leader who will protect the rights and freedoms of our citizens and understand what the needs of our small towns are,” said Woody. “I will fight to protect those rights and to preserve our way of life.”

“We need to make sure that the voices of Northwest Missouri are heard,” added Woody. “I will work with those who love our great state to protect our constitutional rights and ensure that our rural communities receive the resources needed to prosper.”

Woody is currently the Clerk of Clinton County. His office is responsible for the crucial functions of the county such as elections, human resources, and the budget. Outside of his duties, he works with the local committees and organizations to help better his community.

In addition to serving in an official position, Woody is still proudly serving as a Combat Engineer with the 1135th Engineer Company in Richmond, Missouri. Woody enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard in 2012 as an armament, electrical, and avionic systems repairman for Apache Helicopters. After returning from Advanced Individual Training, he served in the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program where he rendered honors for over 1,000 deceased veterans. Woody was also selected to represent his Company in the Best Warrior Competition. He reached the Brigade level putting him above the other 15,000 plus soldiers competing across the State.

“Growing up, I have always had an attitude of asking what I can do for my country,” Woody commented, “whether it’s spending extra time or taking an extra shift so my soldiers can get some rest, I intend to use the same passion and selfless service toward the good of our region and the good of our state.

Woody’s legislative priorities are focused on protecting personal and private property rights and improving life in his rural community through infrastructure and economic development.

“I will fight to ensure that our constitutional rights will not be infringed upon. I will also fight to preserve our rural way of life. We need to invest in our infrastructure to give opportunities for our small towns to flourish and prosper.”
