NRA, EMILY’s List spend big in Missouri’s US Senate race

FAIRFAX, Va. — The trend of national groups spending large sums of money in Missouri elections is continuing with a new ads from the National Rifle Association and EMILY’s List.

The NRA Political Victory Fund recently kicked-off a seven-figure media campaign in the Show-Me State’s U.S. Senate race with an ad titled ‘Always Missouri’ that will air on cable, regional broadcast and digital platforms.

The ad advocates in support of Republican candidate Josh Hawley, who is up against incumbent U.S. Sen, Claire McCaskill in the November general election.

“Our basic right to keep a firearm in the home for self-defense is at risk,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “Claire McCaskill consistently sides with liberal, anti-gun elites and against our constitutional freedoms. If Missourians want to protect their basic right to self-defense they need to replace Claire McCaskill.”

The ad can be viewed online.

Also in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race, EMILY’s List independent expenditure arm WOMEN VOTE! in partnership with Senate Majority PAC will continue running a seven-figure ad against.

The ad can be viewed here. The total buy is more than $2.3 million.

“The working families of Missouri deserve to know the truth about Josh Hawley,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List. “Not only does Hawley not support coverage for pre-existing conditions, but he is leading the fight to end these critical protections for millions of Missouri families. This is another example of him looking women and families in the eye and lying to them over and over again. Simply put, this ad shines a light on the truth: Josh Hawley is wrong for Missouri.”

The NRA’s ad is just the latest in national groups getting involved in Missouri politics, particularly the U.S. Senate race.

The AFL-CIO is launched a massive, six-figure get-out-the-vote campaign last week, that urged Missourians to “Stand up, speak out and be heard. Vote for good jobs and a secure retirement. Vote for affordable, quality health care. Vote for dignity, equality and opportunity.”
