Who’s hot & who’s not: June 3 issue

hot

The Missouri Channel is HOT

If you haven’t already had the chance to, be sure to check out the Secretary of State’s new web page “The Missouri Channel.” Every audio debate from session in both chambers is posted, courtesy of the Secretary of State’s office.

Rep. Kathie Conway is HOT

After major damage to her district during the weekend’s tornado in St. Charles County, the Republican representative deserves some kudos. While touring with Gov. Jay Nixon, she stopped a few times to offer her information to victims and those helping out if they needed any supplies or assistance.

The veto-proof majority is  HOT

Following Rep. Jeff Grisamore, R-Lee’s Summit, resignation retraction, the Republicans are comfortably staying in their veto-proof majority.

Issue-wise, veto-proof is coming up a lot in conversations as agencies call those who voted against House Bill 650 — mostly because of the controversial Doe Run language — to find out why. Testing the waters for a possible override? There’s a bipartisan group pushing for that support. Stay tuned.

The Jefferson County Tea Party is NOT

Not filing expenditure reports on advertisements gets you in a lot of trouble. Just as the Jefferson County Tea Party, which now faces the Missouri Ethics Commission’s $3,700 fine.

Accidental tax increases are NOT

Gov. Jay Nixon has yet to decide whether he will veto House Bill 253 — the tax cut bill — but he announced last week that he didn’t support a provision that accidentally taxed prescription sales. Whoops, #MOleg. EDIT: Since this was published, Nixon vetoed the bill. For more information about the tax cut bill’s veto, check out our story.
