Release: DED releases August 2016 Jobs Report

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – According to seasonally adjusted data released today by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri’s nonfarm payroll employment grew by 4,200 jobs in August, reaching a new record high for the state with 2,821,900 active jobs. Coupled with July’s upward-revised increase of 3,200, employment over the past two months has grown by 7,400 jobs.

The state’s unemployment rate for August was 5.1 percent.

Missouri’s largest private-industry employment growth for August occurred in administrative, support & waste management services (+3,300 jobs), closely followed by health care & social assistance (+3,200 jobs), retail trade (+2,100 jobs), and construction (+1,600 jobs).
