JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Members of a group of environmental activists have been permanently banned from the Bridgeton and West Lake landfills.
Ten members of the organization called the Earth Defense Coalition attempted to block two entrances to the landfills in late March by sitting in the street and chaining themselves to barrels filled with concrete. Their intent was to shut down Republic Services in an attempt to draw attention to their calls for the removal of radioactive waste at the West Lake landfill.
In a permanent injunction filed last Thursday, St. Louis County Circuit Court Judge Stanley Wallach granted a request from Republic Services, the trash hauling company that operates both landfill sites, to block the activists from returning to the locations or blocking any entrances.
