Poll: Dooley’s Run as County Executive in Serious Jeopardy
Kansas City, MO – Remington Research Group conducted an independent survey of the Democrat Primary for St. Louis County Executive between incumbent Charlie Dooley and challenger Steve Stenger.
In the County Executive’s race Steve Stenger, leads Charlie Dooley by 13 points. Stenger has 45% of the vote, to 32% for Dooley while 22% are undecided. The third candidate, Ronald Levy is not a factor at 1%.
A large racial divide separates the two leading candidates. Stenger picked up 54% of white voters who were surveyed, compared to only 20% for Dooley. Conversely, Dooley attracted 64% of African-American voters who were surveyed, compared to only 19% for Stenger.
The latest Dooley television ad suggests Charlie Dooley is on the ropes. The hard hitting negative spot attacks Steve Stenger for child prostitution.
“Charlie Dooley’s latest ad is a sign of desperation from someone trying to change the topic, unfortunately for Mr. Dooley, elections are always about the incumbent and repairing his image with voters is at this point nearly impossible. The data shows that Dooley’s path to victory is extremely narrow,” said Titus Bond of Remington Research Group.
Remington Research Group conducted an automated survey of 2,377 Likely Democrat voters July 9th – July 16th. Responses were weighted to reflect turnout demographics in St. Louis County. The effective sample size for the survey is 1,656 and the margin of error is +/- 3.9%.
