Local small-business owner and retired minister Danny Busick has announced his candidacy for representative of House District 3, comprised of Mercer, Putnam, and Sullivan Counties and the western part of Adair County.
Busick, a Republican, seeks the seat held by Representative Nate Walker, who is running for state Senate.
“As a lifelong resident of the area, I know that we need a leader who understands and respects the needs of our small towns, our farm economy, and our rural way of life,” said Busick, “I will fight for our rural values and way of life.”
“We have a long road ahead of us in making sure the voices of Northern Missouri are heard,” added Busick. “I will work with both Republicans and Democrats to ensure our education institutions like Truman State University receive the resources they need to continue their mission.”
Busick is the owner of Jim’s Radio & TV, selling, installing, and repairing TVs, satellite reception equipment, and OTA antenna systems. His father founded the company in 1956 and Busick began working there at the age of 12. He would go on to study at Central Christian College of the Bible before taking over the business.
In addition to running his family store, Busick has also fulfilled a variety of roles in and around his community for decades: he was a High School Softball umpire for 28 years and an assistant bus driver at Newtown-Harris High School 12 years. Busick has also served as Minister of Glenwood Christian Church for 25 years and as Minister of Humphreys Christian Church for 20 years.
Busick and his wife of 38 years, Sandra, have raised 8 children in the community: their 3 daughters Samantha (35), Danielle (33), and Veronica (20) and their 5 sons Andy (29), Tyler (27), Japheth (25), Micah (22), and Benjamin (18). The family has also served as foster parents. They Danny and Sandra are the proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren. They attend Newtown Christian Church.
Busick commented on his life of service, “all my life, I have felt compelled to help my neighbors and my community. My faith has been a great motivating factor in my life, motivating to love my neighbor as I do myself. Whether through ministering, foster-parenting, or helping out at the local high school, I put selfless service first. I intend to use the same passion and dedication towards the good of our region and the good of our state.
Busick’s legislative priorities are centered on improving life in the rural community, including economic development and investment in rural water resources and transportation, and supporting Truman State University and AT Still University.
“I will ensure that the people here have the representation they deserve. We need to invest in our roads, bridges, and waterways, as well as the industries that support Northeast Missouri. I will also fight to ensure that Truman State University receives the support it deserves as a top institution, not just in our part of the state, but the entire Midwest. Truman State and AT Still University are one of the most important components of our economy and it is my goal to see that they continue to have what they need to succeed.”
