Hicks resigns from House

ST. PETERS, Mo. — Rep. Ron Hicks, R-St. Peters, announced late Thursday that he would resign from office and not finish his second and final term as a state representative.

Hicks did not refile to run for office and instead pursued an ultimately unsuccessful mayoral bid for the city of St. Peters. His resignation means he will not represent his district during veto session.

House Democrats had called on Hicks to resign since he moved outside of his district. He said in a statement that it was “an honor and a privilege” to serve in the House.

“However, because my residence is no longer located within the district, I will officially resign my seat in compliance with our state constitution effective Friday, August 12,” Hicks said. “While I was concerned about leaving my constituents without representation for the rest of the year, my conversations with my family, many of my constituents, and Speaker Richardson made it clear that resigning my seat is the right decision.”

Hicks served in the House for four years.
