PSC approves KCP&L fuel adjustment charge decrease

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Public Service Commission approved a Kansas City Power and Light – Greater Missouri Operations Company request to change the fuel adjustment charge on customers’ bills at its Wednesday agenda meeting.

For Missouri customers, KCP&L will be decreasing residential bills. In the Kansas City area, that decrease will average $1.66 a month. In the St. Joseph area, residents will see a $1.65 decrease on average. The change will take effect in September.

The fuel adjustment charge accounts for the costs of purchasing fuel by the power companies, allowing them to recoup up to 95 percent of those costs.

The commission also set the intervention deadline for the pending staff Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act prudence audit of Ameren Missouri.

Applications to intervene and participate in the case will be due Sept.  12.

The audit will look at costs associated with the company’s Demand Side Investment Mechanism from July 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2014. Public Service Commission Staff expects to file a recommendation in December.

This is the second cycle of the commission’s audit of the DSIM. The first cycle  looked at the period from January 2, 2013 through June 30, 2014.  The report for that period was filed on December 23, 2014. The audit must take place every 24 months.

The DSIM program encourages consumers to be more efficient with their energy usage.
