Attorney General Chris Koster joins host Scott Faughn on Sunday’s episode of This Week in Missouri Politics to talk about his campaign to become Missouri’s next governor. The two discuss his commitment to the 2nd Amendment from his time as a prosecutor and as a law enforcement official.
“Nobody’s going to take any Missourian’s guns, and I am proud to be endorsed by the NRA,” Koster says.
Koster also talks about what it means to be a conservative Democrat in Missouri, Eric Greitens’ charges of corruption against people in the General Assembly and government in general, and how to rectify the problems with unlimited campaign contributions. He also talks about the need for bipartisanship and his hopes of working with state legislative leaders.
On the opinion maker panel, Faughn welcomes new co-host of the #moleg podcast, Catalyst’s Becky Lohmann; as well as St. Louis Republican operative Jennifer Bird; Richard McIntosh, a partner of Flotron and McIntosh; AGxplore CEO Barry Aycock. They discuss Koster’s lead in the governor’s race as well as how his endorsement from the NRA will play to rural Missourians.
“For the past 10 to 15 years, he has been very consistent in his position and he has not wavered,” McIntosh says. “I 100 percent believe he will stand up to Hillary Clinton on guns.”
They also discuss Greitens’ shifting message to tie Koster to Clinton and whether it will be enough to catch up as Koster appears to connect with more conservative voters than a typical Democrat would.
“I think there is a tremendous level of fear amongst Missourians of a Hillary Clinton presidency, certainly her policies,” Bird says.
After the governor’s race, the panel talks about the state treasurer’s race and Sen. Eric Schmitt’s big lead over Judy Baker, as well as the fights over Amendment 3 and Amendment 4.
