JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released her second month report on local governments, following up on a Jan. 27 report showing financial reports not being filed correctly. The reports are one more effort from state to reform municipal courts, spanning all three branches of state government.
The report includes the filing status for cities, towns and villages that filed information in January 2016, after the Dec. 31, 2015 filing deadline.
The new report shows 64 percent of local governments filing the required financial reports, up from 52 percent in the last report. The reports were due to the state by the end of December.
Cities, towns and villages in Missouri are required to file annual financial reports with the State Auditor’s Office within six months of the end of their fiscal year. Due to changes in the law, local governments must also file addendums providing information such as annual general operating revenue and revenues from fines and court costs for minor traffic violations. Local governments that operate municipal courts with a municipal judge must also provide certification of compliance with a series of municipal court procedures.
Reports received are searchable online. Thursday’s full report is available online here.
