Letter to the Editor: Healthcare remains a key issue

I’m a Republican, but that doesn’t mean I am not listening to what all politicians are saying about health care.

Karan Pujji

Two things I know to be true: a single payer system for health care is not the answer and neither is completely dismantling the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and starting over. For example, I can’t imagine going back to a system where we are denying someone coverage because of a pre-existing condition.

Opioids addiction remains a problem. Let’s consider that alternative measures that have been successful using are no longer covered by Medicare and Medicaid and most commercial insurances. Medical compounding (using topical pain creams as a successful alternative have stopped being covered) and now patients are relapsing and going back to controlled substances therefore causing addiction and dependency and causing many to search for cheaper options such as heroine.

I look forward to hearing reasonable solutions for our health care issues. No more vitriol and blaming the other side, those days have past. I want to hear what you’re going to do for the millions who have no coverage and make it better for everyone as opposed to making it harder for a few.
