St. Louis – Former U.S. Attorney and gubernatorial candidate Catherine Hanaway called upon Governor Nixon today to suspend Missouri’s participation in the resettlement of Syrian refugees in light of the Islamic State terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend.
“The Islamic State has claimed credit for terrorist attacks in other states such as Texas, threatened more attacks on America and poses a real threat to the safety of our state. I am calling upon Governor Nixon to suspend the resettlement of additional Syrian refugees until further security measures are put in place to understand who and where these refugees are coming from,” said Hanaway. “As a former federal prosecutor who has prosecuted illegal immigration cases, I know firsthand the threats posed to our security when we don’t know who is entering our country.”
Governors from Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Texas have suspended all resettlement of Syrian refugees since the terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend. At least one of the Paris terrorists is confirmed to have been a Syrian who arrived in Greece claiming to be a refugee.
