Release: Rep. Shamed Dogan Condemns Donald Trump for Flirtation with White Supremacy and Fascism

BALLWIN, Mo. – State Representative Shamed Dogan, R-Ballwin, today condemned Donald Trump for his refusal to disavow support from white supremacists, as well as his quoting of fascist Benito Mussolini.

“As an African-American Republican elected official, I refuse to stand by idly while Donald Trump defies my party’s principles of colorblindness and equal opportunity,” said Dogan. “In a 24-hour period, Trump has refused to denounce the Ku Klux Klan, favorably quoted a fascist dictator, and attempted to have a judge recuse himself from a case because he is Hispanic. I shudder to think of what he has in store for the last day of Black History Month.

“If Donald Trump were to win the Republican Presidential nomination, it would be an embarrassment to the party and the country that I love. I cannot in good conscience vote for this vulgar demagogue. I have confidence that voters will do the right thing and that my preferred candidate, Marco Rubio, will be the Republican nominee. But if presented with the choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, I plan on supporting a third party candidate. Human decency is more important than party loyalty, so I call on my fellow Republicans to do the same.”
