Senator Parson’s Community Health Liaisons Bill Signed Into Law by the Governor

JEFFERSON CITY — Senate Bill 426, sponsored by Sen. Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, was recently signed into law by the governor. The measure allows community health liaisons (CMHLs) to access information regarding Missourians who have been civilly committed in order to improve and quicken communications between public safety officials and the courts.

“The goal of this legislation is to form better community partnerships and save valuable resources that might otherwise be expended on unnecessary jail, prison and hospital stays for individuals with behavioral or mental health issues,” said Sen. Parson. “This bill not only benefits those who suffer from mental illness, it also helps those who are dedicated to protecting and improving our communities.”

Senate Bill 426 will become effective on August 28, 2015. For more information about legislation sponsored by Sen. Parson, you can visit his official senate web site at www.senate.mo.gov/parson.
