Gov. Nixon makes board and commission appointments

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon today announced his appointments to the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority and the Organ Donation Advisory Committee. The nominees will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.

Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority

The Governor has appointed Jason C. Ramsey, of Columbia, to the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA). The mission of MOHELA is to eliminate barriers for students so they can access higher education.

Ramsey has been a small business banking specialist with Commerce Bank since 2012 and previously served as government and community relations coordinator for State Treasurer Clint Zweifel.  He is the president-elect of the Board of Directors for Central Missouri Community Action Agency. Ramsey obtained his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University and his master’s in public administration from the University of Missouri. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending Oct. 22, 2017.

Organ Donation Advisory Committee

The Governor has appointed Michala Stoker, of Kansas City; and T’Shon Young, of Florissant, to the Organ Donation Advisory Committee. The Organ Donation Advisory Committee assists the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the development of organ donor awareness programs to educate the general public on the importance of organ donations; recommends priorities of expenditures from the Organ Donor Fund; and establishes a central organ donor registry within the Department of Health and Senior Services.

Stoker is a registered nurse who serves as the director for partner relations for Saving Sight, a non-profit organization in Kansas City. She previous managed the progressive care unit at Liberty Hospital and held nursing positions at North Kansas City Hospital. She holds a nursing degree from Central Methodist University. The Governor has appointed Stoker for a term ending Jan. 1, 2020.

Young has served as the community outreach coordinator for Mid-America Transplant Services since 2011. In her role with Mid-America Transplant Services, she developed and delivered an organ/tissue donation program for more than 4,000 students annually. She holds a master’s degree in education administration and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lindenwood University. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending Dec. 12, 2015.
