Missouri Lottery Commission receives ‘good’ marks on audit

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Auditor Nicole Galloway released an audit on the Missouri State Lottery Commission Tuesday. The commission received an overall rating of “good,” which indicates the entity is being well managed.

However, Galloway uncovered a few areas of concern, particularly surrounding the commission’s advertising and sponsoring practices as well as how the body handles contracts. Galloway found the Lottery has not properly studied the proper amount of resources needed to spend on advertising to maximize profits and that instead of using various competitive bids and proposals, the Lottery instead simply extends its long-term contracts with renegotiations and amendments.

Galloway also criticized the organization’s inability to determine the profitability of the Points for Prizes program and occasional misreporting on travel expenses by employees of the Commission.
