#BarklageCup 2015: Round 1 Results

Bandwidth by the Barrel

(1) Rosenbaum 53% vs. (16) Lester 47% – Excellent showing by Duane Lester and his growing following at the Missouri Torch. His support warrants a much higher seed in 2016, but Rosenbaum is an old hand at this and came away with a narrow win.

(8) Allman 49% vs. (9) Calhoun 51% – A nail biter with the up and coming star of St. Louis radio edging out the up and coming star of St. Louis television news.

(5) Millhaven 55% vs. (12) Lynn 45%– Tough matchup here in a late rally by McGraw. He will have to step up his game in the next round.

(4) Reardon 48% vs. (13) Charton 52%– Proving that savvy campaigning does matter, Charton pulled off the rare 13/4 upset with a fantastic campaign including cameos by several political stars.

(6) Burke 44% vs. (11) Grace 56%– Another upset here with the governmental affairs aficionado Brian Grace putting together a strong effort and pulling off a win against the most rapidly rising force in communications.

(3) Messenger 43% vs. (14) Felts 57%– Felts is simply a #barklagecup powerhouse. She may have the most devoted followers in all of Missouri social media and proves it again with a win against the most known name in state media.

(7) Drebes 47% vs. (10) Payne 53% – Braxton riding high after his inaugural performance on This Week in Missouri Politics came from behind late in the game to win a nail biter.

(2) Yokley 59% vs. (15) McDaniel 41% – McDaniel made a strong showing, but its hard to compete against the man on 1A of the New York Times.

Have Twitter will Travel

(1) Dueker 70% vs. (16) Brinkley 30% – The real winner in this one may be the Epilepsy Foundation as the defending champion is off to a quick start in her title defense against the first timer Brinkley

(8) Hancock 46% vs. (9) Temple 54% A state party chairman face off ends in a close win for Temple. The Pride of Puxico is on to seek redemption against the woman who defeated his Executive Director.

(5) Nicholson 48% vs. (12) Shackelford 52%  Shackeford talked trash all the way through the first round to a big win against one of the fore fathers of the tournament. We are hoping she continues the smack talk into the next round.

(4) Mazur 52% vs. (13) Schweitzer 48% – Close matchup showing that the seeding committee clearly had Schweitzer seeded too low. Look for that to change in 2016, and look for Mazur to have to up his snark in round 2. Developing an appreciation for the Cardinals probably woundn’t hurt either.

(6) Jones 45% vs. (11) Harris 55% – Quality upset in the first round by the political pro Harris. We would have enjoyed seeing the former Speaker holding up the #barklagecup, but twitter is the beneficiary of seeing Harris advance to a second round matchup against MSK.

(3) MSK 50.2% vs. (14) Roe 49.8%– This one was a nail biter right to the end with MSK pulling out a nail biter. Word on the street is that a late rush of votes from St. Louis City swung the balance, been happening to outstate Republicans for years.

(7) Kelly 51% vs. (10) Lakin 49% – The former representative pulled out the win against a Lakin. We’re hearing that wedding planning may have distracted Lakin this spring, he will have plenty of time to focus next year.

(2) Callow 51% vs. (15) Hafner 49% – An excellent campaign by Hafner made this matchup a nail biter showing why he is a rising star in Republican politics, but in the end the vaunted Mr. Callow pulled out the win.

MissourEE

(1) Mayor Slay 74% vs. (16) Grill 26% – The Mayor has an online base of support that is just scary. However, a fifth term may be easier to attain than winning the prestigious #barklagecup for the most successful public servant in Missouri or MissourEE.

(8) Holsman 42% vs. (9) Cierpiot 58% – Cierpiot marches into the 2nd round after a convincing win for the KC suburbs. However, he has a tough competitor in the tournament’s odds on favorite in Mayor Slay waiting for him in the next round.

(5) Nasheed 48% vs. (12) Silvey 52% – Silvey pulls off the 12/5 upset in a close one. First, he takes the 5th district’s NFL stadium’s public funds, then, bounces their senator from the #barklagecup.

(4) Diehl 51% vs. (13) Mayor James 49%  The Speaker needed more than his 117 best friends to win a close fight in the matchup that had more votes cast than any other. The Epilepsy Foundation was the real winner in this one as the Speaker moves on.

(6) Hanaway 46%vs. (11) LaFaver 54% –Huge upset for LaFaver in the 6/11 first round contest. Big win for the rising star in the KC democratic party in a well run campaign.

(7) LeVota 31% vs. (10) Dempsey 69% – The Pro Tem came out ahead in this senator vs. senator battle. There was no moving the previous question needed in this one.

(2) Kander 49.5% vs. (15) Cornejo 50.5% – One of the biggest upsets in the history of the #barklagecup the rising star from St. Charles County comes up with a huge win, and in doing so pulls of the only 2/15 upset in cup history.

MissourAH

(1) Kinder 76% vs. (16) Bearden 24% – Two things happen when there is an election: 1) votes are counted and 2) Peter Kinder gives victory speeches. It would be fitting to see him with the #barklagecup.

(8) Tilley 42% vs. (9) McGaugh 58% – As seems to happen, the sitting representative trumps the former speaker.

(5) Rowden 57% vs. (12) Maxwell 43% – Rowden is a political rising star, star on the softball field, and has now defeated 3 former senators with his convincing win over Joe Maxwell.

(4) Richardson 54% vs. (13) Miller 46% – In an obvious attempt to distract from his legislative softball game related hardball tactics, Richardson squeaked out a win against a charter member of two time champion We’ve Got the Runs.

(6) Jones 56% vs. (11) Oliver 44% – Oliver put up a good showing against the man with more connections than most cell phone companies, but in the end, the gentleman from Boone was just too much.

(3) Schaefer 49% vs. (14) Dieckhaus 51% – A good campaign and catching the senate budget chair during the week he is perfecting the budget all came together in a well laid plan to see Dieckhaus pull off the 3/14 upset.

(7) Haahr 53% vs (10) Rhodes 47% – A tight battle came down to the wire between Haahr and Rhodes, but, in the end, Haahr pulled out a tight win in the final hours in the battle between the men from the land of Wal-Marts, strip malls, and churches.

(2) Koster 50.8% vs. (15) Hill 49.2% – Stop traffic, the freshman representative from St. Charles County came within a few votes of knocking off the Attorney General. Hill is a future #barklagecup superstar and Koster will need his A-game to advance.
