Gov. Nixon statement on K-12 education performance scores

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon issued the following statement today regarding the Annual Performance Report scores released by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“Every Missouri student deserves access to a high-quality public education, and these scores reflect the real and measurable improvement being made by school districts across our state,” Gov. Nixon said. “I am especially encouraged by the significant improvement made by districts such as Riverview Gardens and St. Louis City Schools. This progress is a testament to the students, teachers, staff and parents who have worked extremely hard and made huge strides forward. There is still work to be done, but these school districts are moving in the right direction and clearing a path toward a bright future for their students and communities.”

The majority of provisionally accredited or unaccredited school districts improved their scores in 2015, with the most significant increases made by Riverview Gardens (33.9 percentage point increase), St. Louis City School District (32.9 percentage point increase), and the Normandy Schools Collaborative (23.2 percentage point increase).
