Corsi resigns as head of DSS, takes position with faith-based non-profit

Steve Corsi

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — After less than two years at the helm of the Missouri Department of Social Services, Dr. Steve Corsi has resigned his position.

Gov. Mike Parson received Corsi’s letter on resignation on Wednesday. Commissioned as acting director on June 19, 2017, and confirmed as director by the Senate on January 18, 2018, Corsi’s last day heading DSS will be June 3, 2019.

“Dr. Corsi has served our country nobly as a veteran and has been a great asset to the State of Missouri during his time as a Department Director,” said Parson in a press release. “He has had a distinguished career in public service, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in this exciting new opportunity with a faith-based non-profit.”

Corsi entered state government in March 2011, serving as the Director of the Wyoming Department of Family Services until May 2017. He previously held the positions of Chief Executive Officer of High Country Behavioral Health in Wyoming and Clinical Director and Principal of multiple behavioral health corporations. Corsi is currently an officer in the Army National Guard and was active duty enlisted Air Force for over nine years.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University, and received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego.

During his time as DSS Director, Corsi has been dedicated to making numerous positive reforms within the department, the press release states. Under his leadership, DSS helped foster children and youth achieve permanency faster, broken down vertical and horizontal communication barriers, and made continuous improvement a designed and trained trait of DSS team members.

“I have full confidence that the Department of Social Services will continue providing excellent service to the people of Missouri,” said Parson. “My administration will work over the coming weeks to identify new leadership that can continue to build on the positive reforms made within the department.”

Corsi is the third department director to vacate his position under Parson’s tenure. The other two include Drew Juden from the Department of Public Safety in August and Joel Walters from the Department of Revenue in March.
