Release: Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in St. Louis County on Thursday (Oct. 13) to honor fallen police officer

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in St. Louis County be flown at half-staff on Thursday (Oct. 13) in honor of St. Louis County Police Office Blake Snyder, who died in the line of duty on Oct. 6. Officer Snyder, age 33, joined the St. Louis County Police Department in 2012.

“Law enforcement officers place themselves in harm’s way to protect others on a daily basis. Sadly, there are times when those officers make the ultimate sacrifice,” Gov. Nixon said. “The lowered flags will remind all of us of the courage and sacrifice of Officer Snyder, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow officers.”

Under Gov. Nixon’s order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in St. Louis County will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Oct. 13, 2016, the day the funeral services for Officer Snyder will take place.
