Beatty: Despite GOP promise, no progress on restoring in-home care cuts

“One week ago, House Republicans blocked a Democratic effort to override the governor’s veto of legislation to preserve in-home and nursing home care for about 8,000 disabled and elderly Missourians, with many Republicans who previously supported the bill switching their votes to opposition.

“As an alternate to HCB 3, Republican legislative leaders promised that a bipartisan group of lawmakers from both the House and the Senate would immediately begin working on a new plan to restore services to those whose lives depend on them. A week later, there appears to be no evidence that effort is underway.

“This problem needs a solution now. With the lack of progress, one could easily conclude that Republican leaders’ call for an alternative fix was merely a feint to deflect criticism from their rejection of the solution that was at hand with HCB 3. This is not an acceptable outcome.”
