Nixon headlines first fundraiser after leaving office, supporting Roorda’s county exec bid

HILLSBORO, Mo. – Jeff Roorda’s campaign for Jefferson County executive hosted a fundraiser this past week with former Gov. Jay Nixon, the first headlining the former governor has had since he left office.

The event was hosted by Clayton law firm Bruntrager & Billings and had 30 more hosts and co-hosts for the event, as well as an overflow crowd of heavy hitters in the legal community.

The event brought in over $15,000, extending Roorda’s fundraising lead over his Republican general election opponent. As of the last campaign finance report, Roorda had a nearly 5-1 lead in cash on hand with $50,935 in the bank compared to his Republican opponent’s $10,612.

Roorda has broken fundraising records for the seat. His golf tournament, which is expected to be his biggest fundraiser, is a month away.

Rooda hopes the turbulent political landscape will favor his bid. Prop A was routed in Jefferson County 78% to 22%. The Roorda campaign’s field operation has identified the NO ON A voters and plans to turn them out in November.
